Ballinvreena Crossroads Dancing
Ballinvreena - the place of the fairy mansions, is a place of character surrounded by mountains and valleys of beauty that change with the seasons. Evidence of human activity here extends some 6,000 years into the dim and distant past and is cherished today by the whole community.
The tiny village of Ballinvreena is located in Co. Limerick, on the road between Kilfinane and Garryspillane. The village is home to the Ballinvreena Rambling House & Cross Roads Dancing and located close to the iron age earthworks of Cush.
Until the middle of the 20th century, thatched cottages were a hallmark of the Irish countryside. Davys Cottage in Ballinvreena, just outside Kilfinane is one such cottage. It first appeared in the Ordnance Survey maps of 1841 and today stands as the focal point of the community.
Local people have converted the cottage into a centre to recall the life and times of people like Davy, a Gaelic speaker, who gave his heart to the people of Ballinvreena and it is in this cottage that the Ballinvreena Rambling House takes place during the winter on the second Wednesday in every month at 8:30 pm with music and stories around the open fire and good friends!
Crossroads dancing takes place from June to September every Sunday from 8 pm - 10.30 pm. Great music, dancing, and of course tea and cake at Davy's cottage.
