Rockstown Castle
Rockstown Castle or as it is also called Williamstown Castle is situated about half a mile north-west of Sheehan's Cross which is about 7½ miles south of Limerick City on the main road from Limerick to Kilmallock.
It is a 15th-century tower-house sitting on a rocky outcrop behind the ruins of Rockstown House. It is almost intact with some damage around the doorway above which there are the remains of a machicolation. It is well equipped with narrow defensive slits most of which have square heads. Some of those at the upper storeys have ogee heads. There are some two-light windows on the top floor.
In ancient times the people thought there was treasure hidden under the western window of Rockstown castle. The farmers who bordered around the place were rich and prosperous and people came to the conclusion that they were digging gold in Rockstown. Many stories were told about that treasure.
