It is said that Ireland has a Diaspora of over 70 million worldwide.

Each year, visitors come to Ireland in the hope that they can find their roots and trace the story of their ancestors. However, it sometimes can be quite a challenge to do this.

In Ballyhoura Country, most of the old graveyards and headstones have been transcribed with records available online to enable FREE family searches. In addition, all graveyards and indeed headstones are geolocated, therefore all linked to Google Maps and easy to find!

This is due to an enormous voluntary effort across the region over a number of years. The Historic Graves project is a community-focused grassroots heritage project. Local community groups were trained in a low-cost high-tech field survey of historic graveyards.

What has been created is a multi-media online record of the historic graves from these communities which unite to form a national resource in Ireland.

www.historicgraves.ie allows visitors from Ireland and across the globe to freely explore and search the growing database of multimedia records and stories.

The website and survey methodology have been designed and built by Eachtra Heritage.
