National Heritage Week 2020

Update: Heritage Week 2020

30 March 2020

In light of the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Heritage Council, in consultation with the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, is considering what approach to Heritage Week 2020 might be appropriate and in line with public health safety.

it will continue to promote information about the theme of Heritage Week 2020, but will not produce any guidance on event organisation until it is appropriate to do so.

The Heritage Week website will be updated on a regular basis with any changes and guidance.

Each year, during the last week of August, national and local community organisations participate in Heritage Week by organising events throughout the country. This year the theme for Heritage Week is Heritage and Education: Learning from our Heritage.

From Saturday 15th to Sunday 23rd August take a stroll through history and explore the close connections between education and heritage and what our heritage can teach us about our past, tell us about our present and provide fresh ideas for a sustainable future.

Many of the events that take place during the week are free and highlight the abundance of great work carried out in communities all over Ballyhoura to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage.
