In 1821, a 12-year-old Mendelssohn attended the premiere of Weber’s Der Freischütz and was blown away. Der Freischütz, an overnight sensation, took the world by storm. Today a cornerstone of romantic opera, its overture is one of Weber’s most popular – foreshadowing, in symphonic terms, the drama to come.

University Concert Hall is delighted to continue its Rising Stars Concert series bringing young, gifted, classical artists to new audiences. Rachel Goode (Soprano), Amy Gillen (Flute), Louise Sullivan (French Horn), Kelli-Ann Masterson (Soprano) and Grainne Ni Luasa (Piano) – have been chosen as this year’s emerging artists and they will perform varied, popular programmes of their own choosing on April 25th!
