Unique Food & Craft Market in Kilmallock – People’s Hall, 20th October
On Saturday 1st July 2018, a new and exciting food and craft market opened in Kilmallock for the first time. The monthly market is a place where people can come together in their own locality, to buy and sell homegrown, homemade and handcrafted produce. All around the locality, bakers, makers and growers are busy preparing their produce for the market. The ethos of the market is to encourage people to ‘have a go’ at running a stall, bringing their skills and talents to the community. The emphasis is on fun, and creating an enjoyable day out for everyone. Visitors to the market can look forward to stalls with everything from homegrown salad, to crochet, to fresh cut flowers.
There is also a community stall each month, which will be given free of charge to a local community group so that they can sign up new members and let people know about their activities.
An integral part of the market is the ‘Saturday relaxation corner’ where market goers can relax over a cup of tea and a slice of cake, with some gentle music playing. There is also a kids’ colouring book area where children can have some fun while their parents browse
Twenty new cottage markets are opening across Ireland this year, as a result of the ‘Cottage Market’ initiative unveiled by GIY, and supported by Ulster Bank, and The Ireland Funds
