An Enchanted Family Fairy Day will take place at Lough Gur on May Eve, Sunday 29th April. Lough Gur will come alive to celebrate family life, dreams and create magical memories to last a life time. May Eve is a time when fairies were believed to be unusually active; there are lots of folklore and customs which will be told on the day. To add to the magic we are encouraging all the boys and girls to dress up for the occasion. There will be face painting, arts & crafts and fairy stalls. Áine – Queen of the Fairies will be onsite throughout the day to ensure everyone is having fun and spreading her mystical aura on the proceedings. Áine will host a special Story Time at 3pm at the Fairy Village where she will introduce the enhanced Fairy Trail and advise on how to deal with mischievous fairies. An Activity Sheet, including a map of the Fairy Trail, will be available from the Heritage Centre for visitors wishing to check out the new arrivals and their homes. Hopefully you might spot one of the magical flying creatures – only true believers are capable of this! Gearoid Earla will also be making a visit to the lake, as instructed by his mother Queen Áine. Families can bring a picnic and take full advantage of the scenic areas on the lakefront. This event promises to bring great excitement and fun, with lots of creative, magical and enchanting activities for all the family. The Enchanted Family Fairy Day at Lough Gur starts from 1pm onwards, please call 061 385 186 for any queries.
