OUR LADY HELP OF CHRISTIANS GRAVEYARDS

milfordgraveyard

Beside the church in Kilmurry, there is a large graveyard that is divided into two
sections. The older section of the graveyard is around the church. Both Roman Catholics and Protestants are buried in the graveyard. The graveyard is kept in good condition and there are a number of tombs in the graveyard.

Old section of Kilmurry graveyard

The oldest headstone that we came across in the graveyard was to the memory of John Neagle who died on 23 March 1760, aged 69. Another old headstone of mention that we found in the graveyard was in memory of Thomas Franklin who died on 15 June 1766 at the age of 104 according to the inscription on the headstone.

KILMURRY CHURCH

kilmurry

Also in the parish there is a church at Kilmurry. The church is no longer in use. There has been a church on this site for over 1,000 years. The original Celtic church was believed to have been founded by St Muchoróg (also called Mo-chuaroch).

By 1615, the church was in ruins and rebuilt around 1625. However, this church was destroyed during the Williamite wars in 1690/1. It was rebuilt by Colonel Kilner Brazier in 1812 and dedicated to St Mary Magdalene. There is a graveyard adjoining the church.

Time and Place for Everything; You like to fight? You like to hit? Thats O.K. You need to let off steam? Thats O.K. You can hit the punching bag; you can fight another student, with his consent and with the teachers supervision. The student learns that without these pre-conditions he is not allowed to hit or fight. Learning to Focus; Major research has shown that karate/kravmaga helps as a treatment for Attention Deficit Disorder, more than other sports. Understanding Structures and Rules; The dojo is a traditional place and there are many rules: how you enter and leave, how you dress, how you behave. The student quickly learns that if he is to stay – he must abide by these rules. Commitment; Martial arts training is based on long-term commitment. You cannot earn a black belt in one year or even two. You learn patience and hard work, any goal worth achieving is worth working hard for, the black belt is a testament to hard work and prolonged effort and that is why it is so respected in all walks of life.

LA CUCINA; ITALIAN RESTAURANT

La Cucina opened its doors in June 2003 selling proper Italian food to take-away. The focus was on using the best quality ingredients and authentic recipes handed down from Mamma Anna. Bruno did the cooking and Lorraine worked the front of house and it was a success from day one. As time went on there was an obvious demand for more seating and a change of direction, so in 2009 the shop was renovated & additional seating for 18 was added.   The menu was changed, new Italian suppliers came on board sourcing direct from Italy, the queues were out the door and the rave reviews & awards followed. (Best Casual Dining in Limerick, Munster & Ireland 2010 & 2011). The focus has always been and still remains food & people and La Cucina is still bustling everyday with happy people enjoying real Italian food.
